Of all the luxury-meets-streetwear moments, the Dior x Jordan drop was one for the books. As the first-ever fashion collab in Air Jordan’s over 35-year legacy, the Air Jordan 1 OG Dior launch was a headline-making moment that stopped everyone in their tracks.

When Dior’s Parisian roots laced into Jordan’s street-cool energy, fashion chaos followed. Millions rushed for a chance to own a pair, but only a select few walked away with the prize.

Here’s everything you need to know about Dior’s groundbreaking take on the classic Jordan, and whether there’s still a chance for you to claim a pair of these limited-edition, ultra-luxurious Air Diors.

How a Selfish Dream Became the Fashion Collab of the Decade

Easily one of 2020’s most hyped sneaker launches, the Dior x Air Jordan collab made its grand debut during Dior’s pre-fall 2020 show in Miami that December.

It all started as a personal (and admittedly selfish) dream for Kim Jones, former Dior Men’s artistic director, who ended up launching one of the most coveted street-meets-luxury collabs of all time.

“Air Jordans are my favourite thing in the world to wear every day,” Jones shared with British Vogue via FaceTime from his Notting Hill home—no surprise, considering he owns around 40 pairs. “Selfishly, I wanted to create a pair of Air Diors for me,” he admitted.

The U.S. Dior Men’s show brought serious front row heat, packed with star power, style, and a who's who of fashion royalty. Kim Kardashian, Gigi Hadid, and Pusha T all carved time out of their packed Art Basel agendas, but it was Travis Scott who stole the spotlight.

Just before taking his front row seat, Scott was given the honor of debuting the much-hyped Air Jordan 1 x Dior collab—better known as the “Air Dior,” as proudly stamped on the shoe’s wings.

The primary highlight of the Dior x Jordan collaboration is the Air Jordan 1 High OG Dior sneaker, an ultra-luxe sneaker that had five million people sign up for their chance to own it (per WWD).

Only 13,000 pairs of the highly coveted sneakers were ever made, 5,000 of which went straight to Dior’s top clients. That meant 8,000 pairs were up for grabs worldwide, and Dior collected names from eager buyers in just nine hours.

Dior officially launched the Air Jordan 1 by Dior on June 25 through a microsite at capsule.dior.com. Buyers raced to secure a pair, with the drop running first-come, first-served. The low-top came in at $2,000, while the high-top version landed at $2,200.

The hype around the luxury Dior Jordan is real; the designer himself can’t quite explain why sneakers spark such a distinct kind of obsession. “People appreciate good design whatever it is,” Jones pointed out. “But nowadays they can do a lot of research. The Air Jordan, in particular, has a huge amount of work behind it to merit its worth.” He would know—Jones indeed understood the assignment!

The high-tops from the Dior x Jordan collab are the full package: made in Italy from sleek white and “Dior Gray” leather, featuring a monogrammed Swoosh, the signature Air Dior-stamped wings logo, and approved by none other than Michael Jordan himself.

For Jones, seeing Michael Jordan's excitement about a sneaker reimagined over three decades later was deeply rewarding.

“It was nice to see,” Jones recalled with a smile, thinking back to his first meeting with Michael Jordan in Monaco, followed by a second in Chicago. “I was surprised he remembered who I was,” he added, slightly blushing. “He’s such an icon and a massive influence on my generation.”

The Air Jordan 1 marked the beginning of a sneaker revolution. Designed by Peter Moore and first released in 1985, the now-iconic pair changed the sneaker game for good, arriving with the kind of electric energy only Michael Jordan could inspire.
